Worship
Today in Church we've been thinking about worship and what it really is. I'm going to quote a passage from a book called 'Live like a Jesus Freak' which I read a little while back:
'Paul and Silas were in jail. Not just any jail, either. They were put into an inner cell of the prison, with their feet chained to heavy blocks of wood. This was maximum security.
The situation looked hopeless. They had few friends in this city. They had no lawyer to call, no one to post bail for them. At midnight when their situation was at its darkest, Paul and Silas used the one weapon the jailer could not take from them: worship. they started singing loudly. Other prisoners wearing similar chains sat up in their cells and listened. Imagine that singing in the dungeon! We don't know what songs they chose, all we know is what happened as a result of Paul and Silas worshipping God. A strong earthquake rattled the prison. Doors flew open, chains fell off. Paul and Silas were free!
Worship is a powerful instrument. When one person praises God, the earth shakes and prisoners are set free.
One of the Bible's most dramatic stories about the power of praise is found in the fall of Jericho. Imagine what the inhabitants of Jericho thought as they felt the huge walls of their city crumbling into the dust. And why was it falling? Not because of cannon fire. But because of shouts and praises to God!
Recognize worship as a weapon God can use to break the chains that hold us and to free us from our prisons.
Don't wait until you feel like worshipping God. The Bible encourages us to praise God all the time, regardless of what's going on in our lives. In fact, when we hit the rocky times, praise and worship is transformed into a weapon, a spritual weapon that rattles the heavens. Singing of God's awesome power is the highest form of spritual warfare. God may not reverse the circumstances of your life, but you can be sure that in time He will reveal the ultimate good that came from even your darkest hours.'
My mum sings a song about Paul and Silas and there is one line which says 'No matter what tomorrow brings or what it has in store, I know I will praise the Lord'
Whatever happens to you today, remember God remains the same and is worthy of our praise. So lets 'rise and shine and give God the glory glory!'
